A crowd gathered Tuesday morning for the grand opening of Poplar Creek Homes, a low-to-moderate-income housing project in the town of South Boston. The Poplar Creek Homes project comprises 16 duplexes and a total of 32 one, two and three-bedroom apartment units. Seven of those duplexes, 14 apartment units, are move-in ready. The project was a collaboration between the Southside Outreach Group and the town of South Boston. With a waiting list of 200 people, Poplar Creek Homes highlights the need for more affordable housing in the community, said Earl Howerton, executive director of the Southside Outreach Group.
